The short story ”Rendezvous” is writing by Daniel Ransom in 1985.
The story is about Kim and Payton and is divided up in two parts. The first half part of the short story is about Payton and the other part is about Kim. In the end of the story the splitted story comes together and Payton and Kim meet each other.
Payton is driving a high speed at the Interstate though listening to loud drums and drinking beer. He thinks back at a conversation, he had with a priest, but he hopes that the high speed can stop his thought about the priest. The drums give him energy. He has a tattoo, which means a lot. The other half part of the story is about Kim. Kim is on the interstate at same time as Payton. She wants to live her own life, without her parent’s interfering and she thinks it’s okay to leave her parent in order to show them that she is independence. It’s cold and empty outside so she misses her mother and her warm room so she wishes a little bit that she is back home, but she wants to give her parents a lesson so she can get more freedom. It is dark and it starts to rain and she wishes she were inside a warm car. While she goes outside she decides to have a ride before it is full dark. Payton rubs the cobra tattoo – it needs to be fed. The drums start playing again and he sees a young girl. The car stops past Kim. Kim can’t check the driver because it is dark so she opens the door so she can go into the car… While opening the door she hears very loud drums.
