Mental health is one of society’s most penetrating stigmata today. There are many in our society who suffers from mental illness and who are able to deal with it properly. Nevertheless, maybe there are many more than we realize. People who denies having a mental health problem, maybe because they think that they are not able be keep a responsibility ether towards the society, their family, their job or maybe even themselves and chooses to work through or ignore their real state of mind. Others might be resorting to self-medication to cope with their mental state and everyday life.
According to Wikipedia, a mental illness is a diagnosis, most often made by a psychiatrist, of a behavioral or mental pattern that may cause suffering or a poor ability to function in life. Such features may be persistent, relapsing and remitting, or occur as a single episode. There are no clear reason for people to get a mental illness but social norms as well as cultural and religious beliefs need to be taking in to consideration when trying to make a diagnosis on a person with a mental illness.
Mental illness is often associated with a distinct region or function of the brain, which might affect how a person behaves, feels or thinks, often in a social context. There is not one particular cure for a mental disorder. The two major treatment options is psychotherapy and psychiatric medication but other options include peer support, self-help and social interventions.
