Hello students, teachers and parents at Townsend Harris High School

It is a great pleasure to speak in front of you today! And thank you for taking your time to sit here and listen to me.

My name is [NAVN A], I am 18 years old and I am a second year-student at Aalborg Handelsskole Saxogade in Denmark. I am beyond honored to be invited by FN to give a speech so that students from different nations can come together and share ideas with each other. By that I am very thankful.

I will approximately speak to you for 20 minutes and the main subject of my speech is how the gun laws should be structured in the future and how mental illness is connected with this. Firstly, I will talk about the subject from different angles and secondly come with possible solutions and thirdly we will use the remaining time to dicuss questions.

366 is the number of how many shootings there has been in the US in 2019, that is more than days there are in one year. More than 34,000 have died from gun-related violence and at least 25,000 others have been injured1. That sounds terrifying to me and I cannot imagine how you must feel about it as well. The numbers just mentioned must be a complete awakening for everyone to see that there has to be gun-regulations or else these numbers will become higher and higher for each year. It is difficult with a country of fifty states to come to a mutual agreement about this issue, especially with states that overall have different viewpoints on whether the gun laws should be stricter or not.
