'The Butler', filmoversigt og resume

A short summary:The movie “The Butler” is about a black man named Cecil Gaines. Cecil was born into slavery and worked as a child in a cotton field on a farm owned by a white family. When his dad is shot dead by the son of the house, the lady in the house takes Cecil as a “housenigger”. After a few years Cecil leaves the farm and travels into the city looking for a better life.

In the city, he passes a bakery. He smashes the window to get something to eat. A man who is serving in the house comes down and finds Cecil eating and bleeding and he helps Cecil to get a job as a servant in the house. Cecil is very good at serving.

A few years later, he gets a wife and two children and Cecil gets a job as a butler in the White House, where he comes close to the politicians. He gets high praise for his work and gets small gifts and medals. Cecil and his wife are the first black persons invited to the ball in the White House. Throughout his time as a butler in the White House, Cecil meets a lot of presidents and gets to know them well. The one he gets closest to is J.F. Kennedy. He was an advocate for the rights of black people.
