Australia was originally a country with many mountains. The dreamtime was the period of time when the ancestors of all living things formed the land and made things come to life. They would for example fill a hole in the ground with water from a watering can to make it a lake. As the travelled around the country they would sing songs that described how the country should be formed. This is called singing the land.

There is only one big Aboriginal tribe. It lives in the outback of Australia. The aboriginals have many stories of the dreamtime that describe how things were made. These stories get passed on from the old men of the tribe to the children. All the stories are about animals and are told to teach the children about life.

The place where your mother found out that she was pregnant with you is very special to the aboriginals, and they believe that you have a special connection to that particular spot and that is sacred to you.

The ancestors’ spirits still walk around the living aboriginals, and the aboriginals ask for their help, if they have a problem with life. Some aboriginals went to sleep upon the land in the Dreamtime and they became a part of the land, for instance as a big rock or hill.
