Aboriginal people have lived in Australia between 40.000 years and 80.000 years. They have migrated from somewhere in Asia. Many say Indonesia. They lived there for many years alone.
Even though, the Australian environment was very harsh for a low technology people like them. The people still grow to about 500.000 people. It wasn’t before 1788 that the English people found about the land which wasn’t even a real country at the time. They started using their criminals to build up the land. They sent them down that had got a lot of time in prison. Could get down there and work on a farm or something like that instead. Many people choose that. This killed the aboriginal culture
They hunted with sticks and stones and especially spears. They mostly hunted for snakes and kangaroos. Some of the characteristics are that they always has stripes and different symbols painted on their bodies.
Through the history the aboriginal people has been treated very bad. They weren’t even citizens in their own country before 1967. From the late 17`s they were used as slaves to build up the country.
Aboriginals believe that their ancestors, has made the land look like it does, if there is a mountain, they believe that it was made by them. They also believe that their ancestors will die and then live on in something else, like a plant or an animal. They believe that they lived like humans, hunting, killing and everything else. In this way, they exist in the past, present and future. This is called “The dreamtime”
