An 16th australian has sailed around the world. She is now the youngest person to do that.

This year the australian young person of the year was Jessica Watson. The youngest woman to sail around the world. What age was she? 16 years old. It might seem impossible to you and me, but Jessica followed her dream till the end, even though there were a lot people that did not believe in her succeeding. But she did it anyways. She prepared for months, training and getting qualifications. She departed from Sydney Harbour 18th of October 2009, and returned 14th of May 2010. At that time she had 8 qualifications and some experience. Her family were actually quite surprised, when they found out that their daughter wanted to do this. As a child she was never interested in adventure or sailing. She was nominated for the Young Person Of the Year award and won it in 2011, because she performed this incredible feat. This has inspired thousand of young

people and teenagers, to follow their dreams. Like I already wrote, she faced a lot of harsh criticism from individuals and organisations, because they thought that this was an impossible task, and she would get herself killed out on the ocean. But she did indeed also get a lot of praise for pushing the boundaries, and when she returned to Sydney Harbour, 150.000 fans welcomed her home by singing Australia's national anthem “Advance Australia Fair”. I think it’s interesting that she never showed a lot of interest as a child, and then went on to do it. I find that very amazing, and it shows that you can achieve most of your dreams. I think that she has a lot of courage, valor and determination. She showed the world that you can follow your dreams and make them come true. Maybe one day, another young person will try to do the same thing and succeed, or
