Analyse af Ralph McTells 'Streets of London'

This song was inspired by Ralph McTell’s experiences busking and hitchhiking throughout Europe. The individual stories was taken from Paris and McTell was originally going to call the son “Streets of Paris”, but he realized he was singing about London.This song shows us the common problems all people have in their everyday life with those of the lonely, homeless, ignored, elderly and “forgotten” members of our society. Later on Ralph McTell regarded it was too depressing.

He describes the environment as an economic poor city. Whenever he is quite detailed and it gives me an illustration of how the environment is. The lyrics to me was distressing because it creates a certain atmosphere which makes people feel blue and think further on homeless, lonely and the forgotten members of society.

The speaker in this poem is of course Raplh McTell. He sings the song in a very calm tone of voice. The song is also quite easy to sing along to, with makes people listen to the lyrics and understand the song.Since the song only features Ralph McTells gorgeous voice and a guitar in the background makes it far more nice and easy.

In the end of the video, Ralph McTell tells us why he chose to rename the song from “Streets of Paris” to “Streets of London”. The reason why is because it is not only Paris that is as described in the song, but almost every city in the entire world. He also changed de song name from Paris to London because he knew London even better. The people he sang about had the same characters as in London. However, in different circumstances and locations, therefore he started reworking it.He mention that he would not have written it, if he had not been in Paris at that time. He also hopes the song will makes people think, because there is a wonderful world of music and words out there that are not just what they sounds like when you first hear them.The song is used as a teaching aid, not just a school but also for young guitar players.
