The selfie is a picture you typically take with the camera on your phone. A typical selfie taker is a person (often girls) in the age of 13-18. I myself often see girls at this age walking along the street while taking selfies. In most cases, they are snapping with some of their friends on the very popular social media Snapchat, where you can chat with your friends while sending pictures to each other. The first selfie ever registered was taken in 1839 by the man Robert Cornelius. The big difference from then to now is that at that time it was men in their 30’s that took their own self-portrait because to hire a photographer at that time was very expensive, so it was not for everyone. However today it is mostly teenagers that take selfies. Almost every teenager in Denmark, England or Germany owns a smartphone and almost all of them have at some point posted a selfie on social media like Instagram. In a dictionary the word selfie is defined as “A photograph that one has taken of oneself, typically one taken with a smartphone or webcam and shared via social media.” The definition is supplemented with the text “occasional selfies are acceptable but posting a new picture of yourself every day isn’t necessary.” If you go on the social media Instagram 80% off all pictures are selfies. I think that is very surprising the number is that high. Each day the estimated number of selfies taken is close to 93 million. Which is also insanely high. There are many types of different selfies that flows the internet like the “I’m at the beach selfie” which is a picture of tour legs where you can see the sea, and the “just woke up selfie.” Which is a picture where you look like you just woke up. In my opinion, the three worst kinds of selfies are “the duckface selfie” “the gym selfie” and “the bathroom selfie.” The duckface selfie is a selfie where you push your lips together in a combination of a pout and a pucker giving the impression you have larger cheekbones and bigger lips. The gym selfie is a selfie taken at the gym (often before workout) so you can show people how healthy you are. They often stand in front of the mirror and flex their muscles. The bathroom selfie is the typical school selfie in the bathroom mirror. I think what I am trying to say is just that I think it is insane how many selfies get taken every day and that I think you could spend your time much better than that.
