This is a short story about the time where I catfished someone. It was 15 years ago before it was a phenomenon. I was a young teen, just surfing around on the internet. I had done my homework, played some games and had nothing to do. I ended up in a chat room with a lot of people from the whole world. I wrote with some people and even made some nice friends. After I had talked and texted some new people it began to be boring. There I was again, sitting in my room feeling boring. That’s where I began. I would try to lie to some people and see their reaction. The first four or five people did not believe anything and skipped me fast. The last person I matched up with where a guy from the Netherlands. I said I was 18 (as was he) and my name where Lauren. We talked for a while and got really close. I even gave him my real phone number so we could write to each other on the phone. Of course, I just kept playing Lauren on 18. I found it screamingly funny.
I even told my friend in the school what I was doing, and they loved it. We had a lot of fun fooling around with this guy. Deep inside I knew it was a bad idea. I knew someday I would have to tell him the truth. We talked for another three to four weeks until things got really intense. He was flirting with me like crazy, he really was in love with Lauren. The thing I remember the clearest was the day where I game home from school and checked my phone. The guy I was catfishing had sent a nude photo. I did not know what to do, I was so disgusting. I wouldn’t tell the truth now and quickly found a girl in underwear on the internet and send to him. Now he had a face of Lauren and things were really taking a turn. I stopped telling my friends about the catfishing. Even if they asked in to it, I just said I already had stopped but I hadn’t.
