UBER has changed the taxicab industry by offering a much cheaper, smarter and easier alternative to the normal taxi. Many people have replaced their usage of ordinary taxicabs with UBER´s services, which has caused a lot of outrage in the taxi community. Whilst this outrage is understandable, seeing as taxi drivers are losing customers rapidly, it should not be directed towards the customers and the freelance minicab drivers. It is debatable whether the outrage from the cabdrivers should even be directed towards the company itself. The creators of UBER had a great idea and have managed to bring this idea to life successfully. Their intentions have not been to ruin the taxi drivers´ careers when creating this app, it was to make ride sharing easier and cheaper. UBER´s concept has a lot of pros to it but it also holds some cons to it, the customers and freelance drivers mostly enjoy the pros whilst the competitors and the company itself holds most of the cons. UBER already has a bright future, but if they manage to solve the problems that these cons bring them, it will ensure the company a long lifespan worldwide.
On a snowy evening in 2008, Garret Champ and Travis Kalanick are in Paris looking for a ride. The guys are not able to find a ride, they cannot call a taxi company as they do not speak French and do not know where they are. This evening was the first inspiration for the company that was to be called: UberCap. UberCap was a smartphone app, launched by the company owned by Garret and Travis, to help people find easy rides quicker. In October 2009, the company changes name from UberCap to UBER, to separate themselves from the taxicab business. Today UBER is in 500 cities across the world, helping children in need get meals, delivering food to customers, hosting events where people who met through UBER get married, and much more. This story of how UBER came to life and these events that they host, etcetera, all contribute to what UBER is – a company that cares about their customers and making ridesharing a better experience for everybody. UBER is the cheaper and more convenient alternative to normal taxicabs, essentially modernizing the taxi business by using modern technology to make everything easier and cheaper for the customers.
