This article will reflect upon the subject of discrimination and racism, towards African-Americans in the USA. The article will be based on the given article by Ishmael Sistrunk, called; Walking While Black: The Michael Brown, Black Men and White Police Officers. The article was published in 2014.
The text centers around the whole case about Michael Brown, who was viciously shot in the streets of Ferguson, by the police. The article also follows up on the riots that ensued shortly after the episode. The author, Ishmael Sistrunk, lives in the area and felt the whole ordeal, very close. He felt the hatred filling the air, even being stopped by police over 50 times since he got his driver’s license as a 16-year-old.
As Barrack Obama was elected president in 2008, he was the first black president in the country’s history. The election symbolized the defeat of racism, and prejudice. However, the truth was far from that, as it brought racism up front and sparked intrigue in those who wouldn’t acknowledge him as president, or work with him to lead the nation.
It is well-known that USA used slaves back in the days, as they were one of the key countries in the triangular trade. When America was still young, Slaves were brought to America, from Africa. America then delivered sugar to Europe, who sent weaponry to Africa, who then sent slaves to America, this process repeated itself again and again. Weapons from Europe to Africa, slaves from Africa to America, sugar from America to Europe.
