Black America is a very serious subject, Black America is a subject consisting of various topics, like racism, slavery, police brutality etc. After the killing of an unarmed teenager; Michael Brown, racism and police brutality are heavily used topics again.
The sender of this nonfiction text is Ishmael Sistrunk, a columnist for “the St. Louis American”, an African American newspaper from 1928.
The newspaper strongly suggests that racism and police brutality is still threats in America. The message that’s being send to the receiver, is the news about an innocent, unarmed, young and black man, had been killed by a white police officer without any reason. The article is from the 13th of august 2014, when the story was new.
The text is from the weekly newspaper “The St. Louis American”, which is an African American newspaper that sheds light on topics like racism that normal newspapers won’t cover. It’s a non-fiction text, that in other words means a real text or story, that have happened.
The receiver of the text is everyone that wants to know what’s going on in America. It’s mostly African-American citizens the article is intended for. The article is a little bit too violent for little kids in the age of 3-13, to read.
