Porverty

Poverty is a common social issue that has troubled nations for thousands of years. While many nations have worked diligently to eradicate it, it still widely exists internationally. Poverty has been a consistent problem throughout history. No matter what the median income, unemployment or overall prosperity level is, there will always be people who are homeless and hungry. Despite being one of the most prosperous countries in the world, the United States is not immune to it either. Even today, there are still people struggling to find shelter, feed their kids and find warm clothing. For children, growing up in poverty conditions, I believe it can have adverse effects that last a lifetime. Income diversity and its correlation with child poverty is a critical issue, if children growing up in an indigent family, get stripped of their opportunities it could affect their future life chances and social structure. I presume that inequality and poverty exist in our society because wealth and opportunities are inherited. If children from wealthy backgrounds are more likely to succeed in society, just because of the opportunities their wealth provides them. We have a flagrant problem. In countries where education isn’t free, children from wealthy upbringings are undoubtedly receiving the best schooling. Even though education historically was considered a great equalizer in society, capable of lifting less advantaged children and improving their chances for success as adults. Recent studies show that the achievement gap between rich and poor children is widening, a development that assuredly threatens to dilute the leveling effects that education provides. A population lacking in education can occur either due to the absence of facilities provided by the government, or because there is simply no encouragement.
