Time and place are set in Billy’s car while he is driving to Koodup which is an Aboriginal camp in Australia. So, the story is what Billy recalls from his journey trying to get back and flashbacks from it. So, the time and place is his car.

The themes of the text are Identity and Races, races because of the issues that Billy has because of his skin tone and the story about Aboriginals tells a lot about Race issues like with the stolen generation.
