The novel “The perks of being a wallflower” by Steven Chbosky was released in 1999, a couple years later a movie was made of it, which was released in 2012. Both the stories in the book and movie are the same, however few details are missing in the movie. In the story the protagonist is Charlie. Charlie is starting in High School, and does not do well at communicating. He is an introvert, and starts off as very shy but intelligent. In the story Charlies social development would be the most noticed going from only befriending his English teacher the first day of High School to being very popular with many friends by the end of the book.
Charlie is early on in the book very welcomed by Patrick and his sister Sam. They talk to him and show him that they are interested in him. This significantly helps Charlie become a person that is willing to get out of his shell and try new things. Charlie becomes a part of Sam and Patricks social circle and begins to attend parties and get togethers. The way Charlie is beginning to try many new things is helping progress more, for instance there is an episode where Charlie tries LSD, due to him being open to new things.
