The first text “Is a Tattooing a Form of Self-Mutilation?” is about what tattoos are signifying to different people. Some people choose to have symbols of religious and spiritual devotion, while others use ink within the layers of their skin to indicate their criminal history.
No matter the reason, a tattoo is permanent and will be stuck on your body the rest of your life. Ink on your body can be done as an act of rebellion or just self-expressive.
The second text “Tattoos were once a sign of rebellion – now they are evidence of craven conformity to cultural norms”, is about that tattoos hurt the chances of getting a job. The mayor of the Japanese city of Osaka has banned tattooed people, from working in local government. He means that if you want to have tattoos, you should go to the private sector. Today is tattoo more mainstream, and Brandon thinks that you can do what you want with tattoos.
In the last text “In Defense of ink”, Columnist Alexis Sachdev explains why her new tattoo is not a piece of ink she will regret, but instead a permanent accessory. Alexis was with her best friend out to get a tattoo. She would not regret it, because she thinks that it is fashion, and her own painful beautiful artwork. She is tired of people like her parents, who think that it is a waste of money, and a decision she will regret later.
