Abraham Lincoln/civil war. Abraham Lincoln became the president of the United States in the year of 1861, and served his duty until his assassination in 1865. Abraham Lincoln was the person who led the US into the civil war, which was the war between the Northern part of the United states, (free slave states) and the Southern part (the states who still had slavery). The reason why the civil war began was because of the slavery in the country. The North was fighting to illegalise slavery and the South was fighting to keep the rights to own slaves. Around 750.000
