Questions about point of view and narrator: 1. Which characters do we read about in the text? The Londoner (a young female) and Laylor (a homeless refugee)

2. Who is the main character and why is it important that her grandparents are from the Caribbean? The Londoner is the main character, as she can relate to her grandparents experience to that of Laylor arriving in London as an immigrants in a foreign country homeless with no food, money or a warm bed to lay her head. She has ancestral background and firsthand experience regarding Laylors situation. 3. Which narrator tells the story? 1st, 2nd or 3rd person? 1st person narrator, she is selfishly telling about her ordeal with an early period and some change she needed to purchase a tampon. The texts states that it was a rather unpleasant situation for her.

4. Why does the main character leave National Portrait Gallery? Laylor felt the paintings form Germaine Greer and A.S. Byatt appeared as though they were drawn by a child. She found it hilarious and her laughter caused a scene, drawing attention to both the main character and Laylor. The character also wanted to pay back what she owed by offering her a cup of tea and be released from the obligation of befriending this immigrant. I also think she might have been embarrassed of Laylor and a little irritated. 5. What do you think would happen, if we saw things from Laylor’s point of view? This is a rather tricky question, I am not sure what Lyalor’s point of view was. But I think she was kind and helpful and kindness and helpfulness is necessary for making society successful. Especially kindness helps one feel like an active member in a functioning society. I believe health of any society is how helpful people are, your character fosters what kind of world you want to create for yourself and generations to come. If we saw things from Laylor’s point of view, what will happen is better, safer and more attractive environment and a useful and effective society. The results of this unselfish act will also be increased happiness, improved relationships and connections.
