Immigration has become a normal thing all over the world. A lot of people must immigrate to other countries because of different conditions in their home country, the conditions can f.eks. be war, family problems, if the country has a bad government etc. You can also immigrate because of your work, but that’s sometimes not a bad thing.
In this story a girl and her brother must immigrate to the UK, because some problems had happened in their own country, Uzbekistan. Their parents have been kidnapped because they were journalists, so for their own safety they were told to run away.
The girl who has immigrated to the UK from Uzbekistan is named Laylor.
We meet Laylor through our narrator, whose name we never get to know. We only meet Laylors brother shortly, and we never get to know anything about him, except that he has immigrated to the UK with Laylor.
The story deals with this narrator, who in her own words is, “A Londoner”, which is a very cold person. She makes it very clearly that she does not talk to other people if it isn’t absolutely necessary. A good example of that is this statement from the narrator: ``Not even little grey haired old ladies passing, comment on the weather can shame a response from me´´.
