Family acceptance of an interracial relationship

Downstairs, I opened the door. “Mum, Dad, I´d like you to meet someone”.

I could see they looked strange at me, I got very nervous. But think they have to know now, I could not wait anymore. Mark came. "Hey, I'm really happy for your daughter", said Mark. My father looked strained. I could see he wasn´t happy, both my parents looked at each other. My mom took my arm and we went into the living room with me. Now Mark and my father stood alone in the hallway. The only thing I could think of was my dad and Mark. My thoughts raced around, about what my father would say to mark, I was sure it would be something negative. My father might as well be a little harsh in tone. While my dad and mark talked, I was really afraid of what would happen and what they would talk about. After a while my mother began again with the native American boy. "Why should it be him, there are other Indian cute boys". My mother didn´t understand it, they are not like Mark, I'm really happy and I love him. I Could see some shadows from the hallway, and my dad and Mark came laughing into the living room. I was totally in shock, "Say Welcome to our son in law," said my father to my mother. I don't know what Mark has said, but it obviously helped. I think that Mark and my father has more in common than I just thought, but it is only a good thing. I'm happy, really happy right now. We went in to get a cup of coffee. My parents are still not quite wild with mark, and still wants me to be with an native Indian boy, but I that they will accept it more when they get to know him, and that´s what matters most to me
