In my world poaching is a very bad thing to do. Lets for an example take the black rhino, the poachers have killed nearly 98 percent and exactly 97,6 percent of all the black rhinos there were at the time in the 1960. If we look at that number and see how many percent that the poachers have killed per year, then its 1,6 percent of all rhinos at that time per year who just gets killed, just to sell their horns because they can get sold for 60.000 dollars or above per pound.
But enough of the black rhinos, the black rhinos aren’t the only animal to get shot by poachers, they are doing the same thing to Mountain gorillas, African elephants, Lions and Grevy’s zebra. The mountain gorilla was before all the poaching an animal which was rarer to find than many other animals, so when the poaching started for real, they immediately dropped in numbers and today there are only about a 1.000 of them left. Same with the african elephants, every year there are about 35.000 killed and its not getting lower by the years.
So why are these animals killed? Endangered animals are slaughtered so that a single body part like tusks, pelt or bones can be illegally sold for huge sums of money. The african elephants’ horns are estimated to be sold for 1.000 dollars on the black market and the black rhinos’ horns is priced at about 60.000 dollars per pound.
