Homelessness in the USA is a big problem. In the year of 2017 there were 554.000 homeless people according to the newest report on the subject. New York and California are the two states in America with the highest rate of homeless people. Most of these people do not have any income, they have no job or any assets and therefor they are forced to live on the street with poor possibility for shelter, food and human connections.
Homelessness began to be a problem back in the 1870S. Into the 20th century, the Great Depression of the 1930s caused a devastating epidemic of poverty, hunger, and homelessness. The number of homeless people grew in the 1980s, as housing and social service cuts increased.
Veterans make up for many of the homeless. In January 2017 11500 in California were veterans. These people are soldiers who have fought for their country in different wars, and now return to their home country. They often suffer from traumatic stress, mental disorders and are extremely emotional. Its difficult for them to get a job, because of psychical injuries and anxiety problems. Their families fall apart, and they do not know what to do to get better. Some of these veterans end up being drug abusers and alcoholics.
