Hello everyone, as you hopefully know already my name is [NAVN A]. First and foremost, I want to thank all of you for coming here today. I know it wasn’t obligatory to be here today. I will be talking about obesity in America as you probably know already.
Today I want to enlighten you about how big of a problem obesity is in America compared to everywhere else in the world and why you should be concerned. If this presentation encourages just a couple of you to think about what you are consuming within a day, and you decide to do something about it my goal will be accomplished.
As of September 2018, studies show that adult obesity rates now exceed 35% in 7 different states.
That would be 7 out of the 20 students who go to this class. The state with the lowest obesity rate is Colorado, with 22,6%.
But why is it that America has such a high obesity rate?
America is the country with the most fast food restaurants in the world. In 2016, America had approximately 187.000 different fast food restaurants spread around the country. That is 3740 per state, which means that you will be able to find one no matter where you go in America. The fast food chains attract people with quick and decent food for almost no money. Perfect if you are late for school or work, but you need a meal before starting. The thing is, you don’t just stop with one big mac. If you are eating a Big Mac, you will need something to drink with it. You order a cola and because you want to be healthy you order a diet coke; however, you did not know the fact that the body does not know how to break down a diet coke. It can take weeks for your body to digest it. Furthermore, studies show that diet cokes increase your appetite, so when you finally get to school and have a break, you go to the McDonald’s which lies 30 seconds away from your school and order another Big Mac. According to McDonald’s own website, one Big Mac is equal to 540 calories. 2 Big Macs in, and that’s a whopping 1080 calories. If you are 18 years old and a guy, you are supposed to consume around 2500 calories a day, depending on weight and height and so on. So those 2 Big Macs already make up for 40% of your advised calorie intake a day.
