Everybody knows how it is to have a fear. We are afraid of so many things nowadays, but there is one fear many people knows about and that is terrorism. Terror is worldwide and the date September 11-2001 has become a well-known date by many people. Since then the fear of terror has just grown bigger and bigger. The media can also make everything worse than it actually is and that is a problem in USA. In USA, there are many people with the fear of terror. The text “The United States of BOO!” by Michael Moore describes very well how some American issues are today and one of them is terror.
Michael Moore is a noted documentary film director and writer from USA. It emerges clearly from the text, that Moore has a strong opinion about the national “sickness” of terror. Michael Moore uses his renown as a famous writer and director to tell his message. The reader knows he is a writer and a director makes him trustworthy, and that strengthens his ethos. He describes, that he has terror close to his life, because one of his colleagues died on one of those planes with terrorists. The fact that he has terror close in his life strengthens his logos, because the reader believes that he knows what he is talking about. He is also using his feelings. He mentions, “We have come to believe that we are in harm’s way, that any of us anywhere in this vast country could die at any time” (P.168 L.32-33). The fact that he uses the word “we” and “us” is the reason why the Americans’ can relate to him. That is a clever trick, and it strengthens his pathos. Michael Moore is definitely a nationalist and a clear indication on that is at the end of the text where he says, “Who is number one? I SAID, WHO IS NUMBER ONE? That’s right. Say it loud! Say it, for George and Dich and Johnny and Condi: WE ARE NUMBER ONE! USA! USA! USA!” (P.171 L.34-37).
