On 11 September 2001, there were some coordinated terrorist attacks on World Trade Center. On the morning of 11th September 2001 nineteen hijackers’ men linked to al-Qaeda stole four airliners with passengers in. The terrorists flew two of the planes right into the Twin Towers of World Trade Center. A plane into each tower, which causing both towers for crashing in less than two hours. North Tower was hit as the first and the South Tower, few minutes after. Many People chose to jump out from the Towers, instead dying inside the buildings. Hijackers of the third airliner flew in to the Pentagon buildings. Passengers on the fourth hijacked airliner attempted to take control of the airliner, and then it crashed in a field in Pennsylvania. There is still speculation about the fourth airliners goal, but many suspects that it was somewhere in the U.S. capital Washington DC. According to the mastermind behind the terrorist attacks, Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, the plane should have hit the United States Capitol, the headquarters of the U.S. Congress. None of the passengers of the four airliners survived.The numbers of dead people from the attacks are set to 2973 excluding the 19 hijackers. The big number includes most civilian people, from over 70 countries. It was not only the people inside the buildings who died. It was also the people who made a great effort to help people get out of the Twin Towers. The rescue men will always be remembered, for having helped in this very sad tragedy. Many years after the Twin Towers collapsed, they still work to clean up after the attack. It was to get the rubble away, but also to get dead people away who were buried under rubble. Many people choose to jump from the Twin Towers, instead of dying inside the buildings. But they died anyway.The U.S. reaction on the attacks leaded to the war against terrorism. Although no one took responsibility for the attacks, there were war against terrorists and those who protected them. The war in Afghanistan and Iraq were among other things motivated by revenge for the attack in United States. Other results of the attack were the introduction of the USA PATRIOT Act and Homeland Security Act. As a result of terrorist attacks many other countries’ reinforced their anti-terrorism legislation. Some of the U.S. stock markets closed for the rest of the week, because of the attacks, and had at the reopening suffered a huge loss, especially in aerospace and insurance industries. The destruction of several very expensive office buildings, were very bad to the economy of Lower Manhattan.The damage to the Pentagon was repaired within a year, and Pentagon Memorial was built as a memorial to the dead. The new World Trade Center complex is currently still under construction, (expected to be finish in 2013).
