Tuesday we talked about the atomic bombes which were dropped on Japan by the Americans in 1945 to put an end to the 2nd world war.
After the war the Soviet Union developed an atomic bomb too, which led to the nuclear arms race and played a big part in the cold war.
Both sides feared a nuclear war, and especially in The US the fear of the atomic bomb was enormous during the 1950s and 60s.
The campaign ‘Duck and cover’ was made for children and shown in schools all over the USA.
