Miss Lewis seems like a young teacher, we get that idea because her ankles are slim. She is often tired and exhausted. The few seconds she gets to close her eyes while playing bottony feels like a true blessing to her. She is not married, as she is referred to as Miss, which refers to an unmarried woman. The story also implies that she does not have a lot of money, because Joseph described the button on her shirt, which was no longer limited by its cheap yellow plastic. There is not much to say about her inner characterization, beside the fact that she is borderline obsessive in the way she refers on Josephs beauty, his parents and his clothing.
