Mental health is very important. Being mentally unstable or unhealthy might have a disastrous impact on the people around you. People who suffer from mental health issues are often unable to acquire or maintain safe headspace. Many people find it hard to talk about and that’s why many people live their lives without prescription. Another reason why it might be difficult to treat is due to the expensive medical bills. In America, there’s no such thing as a welfare state due to their liberal views. Many young people suffer from mental issues. The novel She’s the bomb written by T. Coraghessan Boyle gives us an intimate look into the head of the psychically unhealthy individual, Hailey.

The main character, Hailey Pegler’s is displayed as an unstable individual: “I want to kill myself” (p1, l4), “I’d rather die” (p2, l37). The reason why T. Coraghessan Boyle presents Hailey this way, is to show the reader that everything might not be as it seems: "we’ll go directly inside her head and attempt to assess the grinding awfulness of this moment” (p1, l8-9). T. Coraghessan Boyle makes Hailey appear socially awkward as she finds it difficult to detach from her phone.

Hailey describes her mother as someone who’s always been harping on her. Hailey describes her mother’s constant picking on her, and how she constantly calls her a procrastinator. (p2, l46-47). This leaves the reader to believe that it’s Hailey’s mother fault that she’s kind off messed up. Hailey’s father is never discussed, and she needs, therefore, a father figure in her life. Her mother pushes her to go on with school. It’s like she’s trying to keep Hailey in school against her will. Hailey’s mother is determined to make her into a magnificent specimen, and therefore she will not let Hailey have her freedom. This leads to Hailey rebel against her mother and the school. She has some clear issues and expresses this as keeping secrets from her mother: “Like what? Tell her?” (p2, l36). The readers do not know which secrets Hailey is keeping from her mother, but it gives us a sense that it might be school-related.
