This novel by Philip K. Dick is a criticism fiction of the technology development in our world. Technology is almost taking over the planet. It has evolved so fast and so much that robots are now standing in factory instead of humans. This means that in the future human beings will be taken away from the labour market because the robots are faster, smarter and they don't get tired or need a day off from work. So they are more trustworthy, and you can rely more on them. But then again the population is just there doing nothing, they are not earning any income. With no income how are they supposed to pay taxes or will there even be taxes? Philip K. Dick criticizes the influx of technology by involving androids. Androids are robots that act like humans but the absence of an ability to feel empathy so means they are not really human. These androids are hunted down for enslavement by bounty hunters.

Rick Deckard is a bounty hunter and the protagonist of the novel. Rick Deckard is the main character that kills androids for money. He shows that he cares about his wife, Iran, being depressed by questioning why she would schedule her mood organ for depression. The mood organ is a device that allows you to choose the feeling or mood that you would like to be in. The novel starts of with Rick Deckard and Iran arguing about Ricks job. Iran does not like his job she calls him a murderer. Rick gets irritated and threatens her but she answers him and threatens him back. “You're worse," his wife said, her eyes still shut. "You're a murderer hired by the cops."If you dial," Iran said, eyes open and watching, "for greater venom, then I'll dial the same. I'll dial the maximum and you'll see a fight that makes every argument we've had up to now seem like nothing.” (p.1-2 L.15 and 26-28) In this quotation we can see that she is not happy with his job and she is not suppressed at her home because she threatens him grossly.
