Hello everyone, my name is Katrine. I’m here to give a speech to you about building a stronger cross-culture team. I have been travelling a lot in my life and had a great opportunity to come across many different cultures. What fascinated me most is how cultures can interpret the same thing but differently. I once read in a newspaper; I quote ‘’Never underestimate the importance of local knowledge.’’ So, you should never underestimate knowledge from other cultures. Each culture has its way of expressing itself and its knowledge, and that is one of the important things I had learned.
So first I will give you an outline of what cross-culture communication is and why multicultural teams are often prone to friction. Subsequently, I will offer advice for you on how you build a stronger cultural team and how the leaders of multicultural teams can leverage the upside of diversity without falling prey to its inherent challenges. Eventually, I will give you examples of different communication styles.
Cross-culture communication is the procedure of recognizing both differences and similarities among cultural groups. In today’s rapidly changing world, it is easy to misunderstand each other. We use social media a lot, and it is not easy to communicate online without prone to friction. Multicultural teams are often prone to friction because they either, may not speak the same language, and here comes the culture noise. It is one of the factors getting into prone to friction. Norms, values and skills are different from culture to culture. It also creates prone to friction.
