The sun is shining bright through the window in Allison’s room. She wakes up early every morning.
When she is ready to go outside and play, she meets with her best friend. Paul. He is 8 years old.
Allison is 10, nearly 11. They’re best friends by default. Paul looks up to Allison, even though he
doesn’t share her interests in Barbies and Hall and Oates.
During the summertime, they spend a lot of time riding their bikes, playing Clue, and pretending to
be married. She doesn’t even like him, but he is the only kid in the block they live in.
Paul is in front of Allison. He stops his bike and starts to smile to the little black girl across the street. Allison is angry, and her smile disappears. Allison swings one leg over her bike, and says in an angry way to Paul:
“Why are you smiling to that little black pig over there!?” – says Allison frustrated.
“Get out of our white neighborhood nigga”- she shouts.
The black girl’s smile slowly disappears. Allison sees that Paul also stops to smile, but she doesn’t care about his opinion, black people cannot be here. Not after what they did to her family. They’re evil. Allison looks at the girl with hate in her eyes, but then the girl starts to ask questions…
