In the short story “Braces” by Nick Weber tells the story of a boy named Nick, who is having dental surgery by his grandfather. The surgery is in the grandfather house as it is a privately-owned dentistry while Nicks father watches the grand Prix. He is jobless actor from visiting from London with his son. They sit down for dinner as the grandfather informs Nick that he needs braces all the while Nick says he wants to be a vetinarian. This starts a discussion from both the adults and Nick excuses himself. From outside the house Nick watches them argue and soon leaves with his father as questions what Nick wants with his life and says that his grandfather would pay for his schooling if he could get straight A’s.

There has always been a conflict between parents and their children. It has been likes this though generation and it continues until this day. In the short story “braces” we follow Nick as he visits his grandfather dentistry with his father, who is a jobless actor. His father and grandfather have a tense relationship with the tide of cultural change blowing once again. And both parents expect something grate from Nick.
