Nick and Norah’s Infinitive Playlist is a teenage movie from 2008. It is more toned down, intellectual and sensitive, than what you are used to for teenage movies (Neither Nick or Norah drinks for example). It is more about drama, rather than how disgusting and stupid a bunch of teenagers can behave (as for example in American Pie).
The city of New York (NYC) is portrayed in the movie, as the city that never sleeps, just like the real idea of NYC. Most of the film takes place at night, but you can’t see that anywhere, only at the black sky. Even though its night, the city is full of life and joy and everywhere where we follow Nick and Norah that magical night, we see people having fun. NYC appears as a fantastic place, where everything is possible and so many things are going on all the time, but time itself is subordinated.
Besides the fact that the movie is a cute teenage love story, it’s a tribute to NYC, music and the atmosphere of the city.
Nick is an unsecure teenager, but a sweet guy all the way down to the bottom line.
Nick is very sensitive and kind, but is not a pushover. We see that in the end of the film where he punches Norah’s ex-boyfriend.
