It is not easy to break a pattern and make a life changing decision for the better, nevertheless sometimes you must do what is best for yourself to pursue what is meaningful. Should you stay in a country which is contrary to your principles or move to another country where you have better career opportunities? Do you know what it feels like to be forced to move out of the country you live in? This is not far from what Sorcha McCrory experiences in her article “I left Britain” published by HUFFPOST Personal in 2019. She deals with moving abroad from an unrecognizable country.
Sorcha McCrory has never been entirely satisfied with her life in UK but after the election she emphasizes that her English identity has never felt so absent as now “after watching the results roll in for the U.K. election last week, it has never felt so far away” (p.1, ll. 13-14) Considering that London has never moved geographically, regardless of this reality the fact remains that the boundaries has been altered consequently much that her relation to the UK feels so distant and “far away” from what she knows.
It is quite easy to comprehend that she feels forced to move, not because she wants to, but as a result of she feels like she has no other choice but moving away by virtue of Brexit. “[...] but I’d always assumed I would live abroad for a bit. It seemed the time was now, as Brexit forced my hand.” (p.1, ll. 20-21) This shows that Brexit has that big of an impact on her life since her moving away must be done by now instead of waiting. She felt the need to do it as soon as possible because she feared for her future career opportunities “Opportunities were dwindling, and I feared my fledgling career couldn’t weather a Brexit storm, so I packed a bag for Copenhagen” (p.2, ll. 29-30) this gives us an insight on how the Brexit regulations are going to impact young talents.
