On the Streets of Binge Britain is an article written by Jay Rayner in the British newspaper “The Guardian” on the 5th of September 2004. It is about binge drinking in Britain and how this is a big problem that needs to be handled, as it is bad for both the people and for the whole society. The article is directed to all the people that drink without moderation. It sends out a warning to the society, if people keeps drinking like this, there is going to be a lot of ambulances, money and working days wasted on treating those who are drunk, has been beaten up by some pissed off drunk bloke and so forth. All in all the crimes in Britain is going to be increased by the bad bingeing culture. ”But the really remarkable thing about all this, the really troubling thing, is that, according to the Basingstone police, it is ‘a quiet night’.” Jay Rayner writes just after talking about the several happenings caused by alcohol inflicted people. The incidents he mentions is a mom who was drunk and taken to the hospital while her son was drunk and angry, and was thrown out of the pup, two drunks with stab wounds that was thought to be self-inflicted, a woman stamping on the head of another woman, pissing in the doorways and a guy who was beat up because he was bald. All in all it’s a scary thought that all these happenings are called a “quiet night” by the police, and it is a good thing to mention in Rayners article because it supports the message that he is trying to phrase.
