The reason why it takes place in Britain is because Jade talks about £ later in the story and the £ is the British currency. The story is written in the year of 1990 and it must take place before that year, it could be in between the years 1950 and 1990 because computers are mentioned and the computers were invented in the 1950's. It is written in 3rd person narrator which makes the reader incapable of identification with the main character.
