The Three Witches:

Act 1 Scene 1 of Macbeth - 1971 2006 and 2010

It’s interesting how a story can be interpreted in so many different ways, depending on how people understand the story, or the movie's time setting for example. It’s also very interesting to see how the same theme of a film can be portrayed in different film versions. For instance in Shakespeare’s play “Macbeth”, multiple versions of his original plat have been remade. In this analytical essay, I will compare act 1, scene 1, of 3 completely different movie interpretations of the three witches from "Macbeth" in, Macbeth 1 by Roman Polanski from 1971, Macbeth 2 by Geoffrey Wright from 2006, and Macbeth 3 by Rupert Goold from 2010.

In the first Macbeth interpretation, “Macbeth 1 by Roman Polanski from 1971" the setting of the play is on an open beach in a rural almost deserted-looking area. There is nothing interesting to be seen from the beach area, there is only sand, a body of water, and some landscape in the distance. The desertedness and or loneliness is emphasized by the lonely seagull flying around. It seems like the witches are out digging a hole very early in the morning giving the scene a dark and mysterious feeling to it. There are only 3 witches in the first scene, and nothing seems to be very supernatural about them. It makes the setting of the scene a very ominous feeling to it. The three witches in Macbeth 1 by Roman Polanski, therefore, seems very frightening and eerie. Since the scene/movie is from 1971 it's evident for movies from this time period that there isn’t used a lot of special and or cinematic effects.
