Three witches appear in the open stretch of land, with a prophet that, Macbeth someday would become thane of Cawdor, and later on, the king of scotland. The current king, king duncan, had three sons, who had to overtake the throne, if something were to happen to the king. But we will get back to that. shorter on in the story, the king mets with Macbeth. The occasion? The king wanted Macbeth to be the new thane of Cawdor. This meant that the prophet of the three witched, were true. This also meant, that somehow Macbeth would become king of Scotland one day.
