At a military camp near Forres, King Duncan asks a wounded sergeant for news about the battle with the Irish invaders and the invading army from Norway, who were led by a rebel and he is also the current thane of Cawdor, Macdonwald. The sergeant tells the king how bravely Macbeth and Banquo had fought against the invaders. The king pronounces Macbeth as the new thane of Cawdor.
On their way to the kings court at Forres, Macbeth and Banquo comes upon the 3 witches. The 3 witches tell Macbeth he can become the king one day, but to achieve that he has to kill the current king, king Duncan. They also tell Banquo, he will never king but his children will and after that, the 3 witches disappear. After the arrival of Ross and Angus, Macbeth gets the news of him being made to thane of Cawdor because the current thane of Cawdor will be executed for treason. Macbeth starts to think that the 3 witches’ prophecy has come true and that he will become king one day, he writes a letter to his wife about the promotion and about the witches’ prophecy.
After the kings arrival to their castle, Macbeth and his wife makes plans on how they shall kill Duncan. To start with Macbeth was unsure wither he shall kill King Duncan or not, but at the end Lady Macbeth convinces him to do it.
