Write an analytical essay (400 –600 words) in which you analyse and interpret the novel Ghost Boys (2018) by Jewell Parker Rhodes. Your essay must include the following terms: “racial bias” and “bearing witness”, as well as the following points:
a characterisation of Jerome
the structure of the novel
the conflict
the setting
Remember to use evidence from the text to back up your claims, and remember to use the PEE-model (point, example/evidence, explain) in your essay.
Example:
Jerome is a sensitive boy who cares about others’ well-being. We see this in the text when Carlos is introduced to the class, and Jerome feels “sorry for him” (p.36). This is partly what gets him in trouble with the school bullies, but it is also what makes him a great friend to Carlos.
