Kevin Love is an American professional basketball player who plays for The Cleveland Cavaliers. Back on March 6, 2018, he wrote an essay for an article that was published on ‘’The Players’’ Tribune, a media platform that provides content written by professional athletes. In the essay, he speaks about how he in late 2017 had a panic attack in the middle of a game which inspired him to start in therapy and to speak out loud about his psychic challenges and how it inspired him to get a healthier attitude to his mental health. From that moment, Kevin Love has chosen to try to be a part of a help as he is a person with an upright public image, he knows much about the subject as he has been through it himself. Furthermore, he said that he has been uncomfortable talking about his inner life for most of his life, but that he has realized that this attitude is harmful, not just for himself but for society. He notes that there are social expectations that men and boys do not talk about their feelings.
Having that said we can see that this article was made to inspire both boys and men of all ages. What Love is emphasizing in this text is that men and boys have to stop playing by ''the men's rules'' and start embracing their feelings. He uses his own life as an example of that you have to focus on yourself. Throughout the article, Love uses many forms of appeal to engages the reader. Pathos is one of the most important forms of appeal in the essay. This is to be expected, as the topic itself is highly emotional. Love’s main appeal to pathos comes from his descriptions of his own emotions, especially when he describes what had happened to him (ll. 65-66) ``and I didn’t want to be the only one. I didn’t want to look weak. Honestly, I just didn’t think I needed it. It’s like the playbook said – figure it out on your own, like everyone else around me always had. ´´
