Heat can kill a person by pushing the body beyond it’s limits. Evaporation (which is the same as vaporizing) is slowed down in high humidity and the body has to fight very hard to keep itself at a normal temperature.
Most accidents involving heat is caused by being exposed to extreme heat or by over-exercising for a person's age or physical state. Ill, overweight, old and very young people are most likely to die of extreme heat.
Conditions that can cause heat-related illnesses can be still standing atmospheric conditions and poor air quality.
People living in big cities or places with many people on small space are at greater risk from the effects of a sustained heat wave. Because there is much less space for air to get out, and because it’s harder for heat to escape the urban areas which makes it hotter than on the country. This is called: "urban heat island effect."
