”Letter from the future” is a letter written by Fred Bain – a man living in the future, many years from now. It seems as if he isn’t very fond of the futuristic life, and after reading his letter, who would be. Fred has spent all his life in front of a computer screen, which is his “manual” to life. It tells him what to do and when to do it. I can’t imagine how boring it must be never to make a decision on your own. He tells us that his life is great – or his television tells him so anyway. A television screen is telling him that his life is great, and he believes it!!! I guess that some kind of systematic brainwashing and manipulation is what we can expect of the future. We’ll obviously be entertained by electronic devices all day long as a replacement for the “old fashioned” social activities. Boredom and not spending any time with your friends must be a new trend, Fred and his fellow humans are following so thoroughly. After reading Fred’s letter, I got the impression that they are free of using their brain. They watch TV all of their spare time and you’d think, that they at least have a job, where they could get some challenge before they turn into some brain dead walking creatures. But guess what… A computer tells them how to do their job. Fred Bain for an instance has no clue what his job is, because a computer tells him which digits and buttons to press. I think that that’s extremely impersonal and dehumanizing. That’s not man’s nature. Man has to be challenged and find solutions on his own, or in other words use his brain. This is all something, people in the future are missing out on.
