Bend it like Beckham: personlig refleksion

What do you think about her situation? It’s fair? How important is religion to Jess and her family?

I think she is in a very difficult situation. The family’s norms and perspectives from the Indian society puts up a wall between Jess and her dreams. The religion is very important for the family, because they believe and live in that specific religion. I think it’s fair that the family have some rules and norms to follow, and some strong believes, but then it comes to a dissension where are blocking Jess from her social life, and her future dreams, it’s too much in my opinion. I think that they have to let her play football and give her some spare time, else she will be frozen out from the teenagers around her.

Have you ever been in a similar situation, where you wanted something but your parents were against it? Maybe something with school, friends, travels or parties.

A couple years after I first arrived to Denmark, I lived in Amager and then I started to se some boys from Serbia. When my mom find out about it she got mad at me and forbid me to hang out with them. I didn't quit understand it but I needed to listen to my mom because that was how I was raised. My mom sad I couldn't be with those people because their people did some really bad things against the Albania population. About ten years ago there was war between Serbia and Kosovo-Albania. In the middle off the war happened a lot of bad things, said my mom. One of those things was my dad and cousins got killed. I started thinking badly of my new friends, so I decided not to hang out and play with them. I find some new friends that also were from Albanian. They didn't like the Serbs too. We were told that they are bad people and they hate us. That reminds me a little of Jess and her family. Now a days, I can’t follow my mother’s thinking anymore, I see that the Serbs are here in Denmark, as the same reason as us. They are moving because of war, so in the end, we aren’t so different at all.
