The American Dream is a big part of American identity. It is the idea that you can fulfill your dreams if you put in the work and determination. This idea, however, is now part of the past as most Americans feel that they are being compensated too little and are not living their American Dream. This means that there are people who work their entire lives and still don’t end up quite reaching their dream, whether that would be a house, job or something entirely different.
The American dream can be described as “a social order in which each man and each woman shall be able to attain to the fullest stature of which they are innately capable”. Therefore, the American dream can be perceived as having opportunities, wealth, and living your life the way you want to. This means being able to have a life of social and financial stability. A good example of this goal not being reached is the 61-year-old, [NAVN A], who lost his Graphic design and illustration business, and ended up having working as a substitute teacher for 75$ a day to cover his expenses. He does not feel that his job is very secure and does not think he will be able to retire at 66 years old as he had always dreamt. This is one of the many stories that show us how the American dream has been disappearing.
