I am sitting, contemplating about the letter from “an unhappy mother”. I can absolutely relate to her situation. Actually, I have a similar problem that is bothering my night and day. My eighteen-year-old son and I have always understood each other, and we have kept together through fire and water, ever since his drunken and ruthless father left us about fifteen years ago. My son has always been a nice and devoted boy. He has always stood by my side in both good and as well as critical situations. I have succeeded in raising him so that he has always been really helpful to me, for instance; he took out the garbage every morning, on his own initiative. He has always been doing his things properly; doing well in school and so on. But now, all that is a thing of the past. Two months ago he met a piece of chit, or to make it clear – pardon my expression – a real little bitch, aged sixteen, whom, as far as I am concerned, have had several sexual relationships since she was fourteen. It is of my clearest notion that the girl has seduced him, leading him in to all kinds of things: parties all night, smoking of hash and an immense spending of money. And she is not at all ashamed of having sex with my son, more or less right before my eyes, when visiting our home! It has now become completely impossible to talk sense to him. He is utterly changed, and I have a sad suspicion it is due to being under the influence of hash. I do not think that his mentality is able to cope with it – and his mental well-being is troubling me the most. When I attend him, he just reacts in a tired manner. What can I, as a mother, do to help him?
