I choose this topic, because I can relate to it, but also because I want to expand my knowledge about it, why it is a world problem, and why it is mostly common among teens.
2.What is self-esteem?
Self-esteem can be referred to as self-worth, self-respect or self-value, and it is simply the opinion we have about ourselves. It is usually mistaken with confidence, but they are two different things. Confidence is the way you feel about yourself or the abilities you have, and even if you have high confidence in yourself or something you are good at, you can still have low self-esteem. Example. Our self-esteem has a big impact on our choices and actions. And of course, if you have low self-esteem, that will usually lead to bad decisions.
3. What causes low self-esteem?
There are plenty of things that can cause low self-esteem. Usually, the issue begins in the childhood, mostly because of the parents, teachers or some kind of trauma we’ve been through. Some other things that can lead to low self-esteem are bullying, the society we are living in, social media, bad body image and negative thoughts. There are many more things that can cause our self-esteem to go down, and it also depends on the person, and what he or she has been through.
