Surveillance cameras are video cameras which is used for the purpose of observing an area. They are often connected to an IP network, which is a communication to send messages from the surveillance cameras between to computers.
Some people says that surveillance cameras are security, but we will not say that it is security all the time, because in some places it could be offensive monitoring. If surveillance cameras are installed in bath- and changing room where you are doing something private, then it’s not security but watching others. We see security as someone whose job is to take care of us. For example if we were on a club, is it the security guards job to take care that any bad guys doesn´t get into the club. On the other hand is surveillance monitoring, because it can be used in the toilet rooms or changing rooms.
Surveillance in Denmark.
In Denmark are there actually more surveillance than people know. We use especially surveillance cameras in front of our schools, but not always in the schools, like on the hallways or the changing rooms. The policy in Denmark had made a questionnaire, to ask 46 municipalities in denmark if they are using surveillance cameras in their schools. Showing that by a statistic, are 37 out of 46 schools using surveillance cameras. The schools use the cameras to avoid crime or vandalism on the schools.
