Analyse af 'Waiting for Spring'

The short story” Waiting for spring” written by Tamara Jones in 2015 takes place in a park, last in January. The short story is about two main characters named Albert and William. They are alcoholics and lives on the street. They are sitting on a bench in the park and looking around. Albert leaves the bench and goes to the bridge, where the other homeless are. Williams stays on the bench; he has a bad disease. The day after Albert goes back to William, and William tells Albert that he has Emphysema, which is a lunge disease.

It is very hard to bee homeless. You don’t have any place to live or sleep. Problems like alcoholism and diseases can follow along. It can be hard to see things getting better. How does the future look? We meet homeless people in the short story “Waiting for spring”. Homeless is a big topic. We don’t know much about Williams outer characterization. We know that he is a man up in the years. William is homeless and is often sitting on the bench by himself. He describes himself as a smoker, fat and lush (L. 130). William presents symptoms of alcoholism. William is drinking a lot and when Albert gives him a bottle of whisky, becomes his “Mood instantly lifted” (L 80). It´s a sign of his body being affected by alcohol. It seems like he doesn’t care about his own health. William has a very good relationship with the other homeless people, although he wants to sit alone on the bench. He seems to be a very good friend: We see that, when the others call him “Bill” (L 99). William also has a very close relationship with Albert. He believes that Albert and that’s why, he opens and tell Albert about his disease (L 111).
